ABSTRACT

Objective The attitude towards death and hospice care was surveyed among 170 medical staff in geriatrics department and ICU of Renji Hospital and Tangqiao Community Health Service Center with the Revised Attitude towards Death Scale ( in Chinese ) and a self-designed questionnaire , and 158 valid questionnaires were received .The average score of negative attitude to death was 37.0 ±8.4 and the influencing factor was positions (P=0.02).The average score of positive attitude to death was 28.8 ± 4.3, and the influencing factors were positions (P=0.01)and religious belief (P=0.02).The mean score of attitude toward hospice care was 35.4 ±3.9 and the marital status(P=0.00)was the independent factor . It is necessary for medical staff to participate in professional training for death education , which would make them to take better care for terminal stage patients with rationality and sensibility .
